National security is at risk. That was the biggest concern of the US government that they want to shut TikTok down.
The US Senate has approved the bill that may lead TikTok to be banned in America. ByteDance, the owner of the app is pushed to sell its stake to avoid the block. The period is set to be nine months.
As it progresses, the bill will be handed over to POTUS, Joe Biden to sign. He himself had stated that he would proceed the bill if the request is denied by the Chinese company.
However, it would take several years for the ban to apply. The company may take legal action to delay the process. Some possibilities are still open, as for now.
